Funding for Navigators Reserve

Author: Marita
Date Created: 06 Jan 2007

The Navigators Community Centre has secured funding from the Moorabool Shire Council to upgrade the hall and toilets; and beautify the Gerald Mullane Reserve.

The total of project is worth $26,318.00.

The Navigators Committee has also secured the labour force from Ballarat Regional Industries (B.R.I.) – Work for the dole scheme. This project will provide the participants with multiple trade skills and the experience in working in a team, connection with a community and working towards a completion of a worth while project to a budget. Qualified tradesmen are used where necessary.

Navigators Community receives value for money; the project will increase the Gerald Mullane Reserve appeal and usage as the centre-point meeting place for local community members and friends, thus encouraging greater involvement and pride in the sole public asset in the Navigators district.

The upgrade project consists of;

  • Full refurbishment of hall interior, stripping of old paint, filling, painting walls, ceiling and trims etc.
  • Interior electrical works, extra 4 twin fluorescent lighting, 3 sweep ceiling fans, 3 illuminated exit signs and 1 emergency light.
  •  Provision of storage cabinet in store room, for added security, and to restrict child access to equipment.
  •  Provision of fixed exterior furniture, 2 red-gum picnic tables and seats, providing a disability access and use, on a concrete slab.
  •  Paving of the rear access of the toilet block, to reduce risk and maintenance, and provision of an adjacent disable car park space.
  •  Lining and painting of internal walls and ceiling of the tennis club room, to address the problem of vermin entry.

Other smaller projects;

  •  Landscaping the swing area.
  • Fitting first aid boxes to appropriate areas.
  •  Attaching signage to toilets.
  •  Maintenance to toilet areas to address bird problem.

B.R.I. will commence work on the 15th January, 2007.

The Navigators Hall will be closed down for several months while renovations take place.
